Hello, friends. Welcome back to Stylistle Tribe Conversations. I am joined today by Tana Kramer. She's the founder of TK Solutions and a profitability strategist and guide who has dedicated her career to empowering entrepreneurs, especially women leaders, to achieve sustainable growth and financial success. From answering phones at her father's store. Small town glass shop to managing complex financial operations for large companies. Tana's journey reflects her deep rooted passion for helping businesses thrive. Tana, thank you so much for joining me on the podcast today. How are you? I'm so good. I'm so excited to be here. Yeah, we, as always, I, I yap before we hit record with everybody. I don't know Tana at all. We are meeting for the very first time today. She's listened to a couple of podcast episodes. She's a little bit familiar with how I speak, but I do not know her at all. Um, I'm assuming Tana uses a company that kind of, uh, networks her with other podcasters. And I get emails a lot. Once you launch a podcast, you get emails a lot. I think people just flow through, the charts and who's recording and your niche and whatever. And yours stood out to me specifically. I have quite a few episodes on money and those tend to do really well. I think any entrepreneurial, anything beauty industry or not. That's obviously a hot topic for a lot of people and I know the, my community and the people that I tend to attract, money mindset stuff comes up a lot. And one of the talking points that, you know, were filled out when we scheduled this is about wealth mindset and working through some of those money blocks. So I would love to just get to know you, get to know your story, have a conversation, see what you have to share, Does that sound good? Love it. Love it. Take us back to whatever feels relevant and start to tell us how you have become who you are today. Absolutely. Well, it's funny because I did start in my dad's glass shop like on holidays and I love to answer that phone. It sounds so silly now because now I'm like, I don't want to be on the phone. Like let's talk by email. Let's do direct message. Like I'm all about the zoom conversation because I actually like to talk to people. But the answer the phone, I'm like, that thing hides in the bottom of my purse. I don't know about anybody else. but I, went to school and was in business school because I was like, I'm sure that I care a lot about entrepreneurship. I went to work for a couple of people and I realized, Oh, wow, there's some really dumb rules out there. And I am probably not going to be able to stay in a corporate lens. but I did work for some really great entrepreneurs. I worked for an apparel company who had like Inventory and had all sorts of, B2C, B2B businesses. Love, love, love working for them. And then I actually worked for somebody who was a rising author and like, we're like breaking the internet kind of a thing and so got to build a team from the very beginning and I really, really loved creating the structure of that business. What year was that? I'm just trying to figure it out on a timeline. What year were those times? 2000. 18. Rising author. and you enjoyed watching how a team grows, how that all plays out. cool. Yeah. And just building like, you know, events and books and, you know, a podcast, like so many different avenues in the business. I love everything about the build process. Like in 2018, that's very much the rise of social media. I would say prime like Instagram was popping back then. Yes. So social media all over the place. that was actually my first real experience, with learning how people build on the internet. I love, love, love. Cause I love setting up entrepreneurs for success because ultimately like the money side of things, if you run out of money, everything stops, right? Business stops. Personal life is crazy. So I really, really love to help people build things correctly in their business, so they're profitable, that they know, like, they save for taxes. They understand what's coming at them. I just want people to feel really, really solid. I'm an Enneagram 6, so I like a little bit of safety. It's not at all surprising for, I'm an accountant like person. Yup. but I think that can be really, really boring, like, you know, when you think of accountant, you probably don't think of somebody who's any fun. Well, and I think going from like a more creative role into what seems, I'm guessing, are your strong suits. You haven't gotten to the money part yet, but I think that probably melded those two together very well. Absolutely. Cool. So when did you leave that and start doing your own thing? Yeah, well, when, when I realized that that that was trying to grow to like 100 people that were going to be under my purview, I was like, No, no. I love small business. Yeah. So I like the one to 15. And so I realized I'm so excited that this is growing and I love that for them. But for me, I really love the build. I think that's really when I realized that rinse and repeat financial stuff, like just the taxes. I don't love that either. do we all need to do it? Do we need to prepare for it? Yes. But like, I don't love that either. So I was like, I want to be able to have a, this is like true entrepreneurial deal. Like I wanted to be able to decide when we were running fast and when we were running slow and have that line up with my own life because I was launching kids up at that point. I had launched one. I was getting ready to launch the second and I was like, holy moly, this parenting thing is about to be over, which is both exciting and a little bit of panic. so I decided that I wanted to, start the business because I wanted to have a little bit more control over that. And. Because I found that I love the build so much. I'm like, Oh, I always want to be the person who's helping with the build the financial systems in a business help, you know, business structure. Do you have a like, are you set up to make money from the beginning? Because sometimes ironically, people start businesses and they're not and you're like, Well, how are you going to take a paycheck? Right? Totally. I was like, I want to do that. When they get to like that rinse and repeat bookkeeping and taxes, and the business owner has the reporting and stuff that they need. Like, that's the part where I'm like, I'm a little bored. So I needed to have a business that I was going to be able to still stimulating. Absolutely. Yeah, that makes sense. Cool. So what does it look like in the day to day right now? Like what kind of businesses are you helping? And what's like your favorite way to help them? What does that look like? Well, I had a call yesterday and I was like, Oh, I remember how much this is my favorite. So brand new business owner, they have like so much excitement about what they're going to do in the world. And then they're like, but I have no idea how to work on sales tax or how to make sure I'm, you know, saving the right amount for taxes. What can I write off? Like, what am I allowed to write off? You know, because of course, people hear things like, Oh, you can write off everything. And it's like, well, my CPA is so sick of my shit. I always am coming in with these new ideas. And he's like, Lisa, get off TikTok. If there was things we could be doing, we would be doing them. So yeah, that's funny. Yeah. And I think the biggest thing I do is I provide that safe sounding board to people so they can see things on TikTok and be like, hey, I don't know how that applies to my business, but can you help me understand that? Like, it's a good thing to continue to expose yourself to different ideas, but let's ground them in your actual details, and then, you know, because at the end of the day, if somebody gets out of it, it's going to be you, right? It's not going to be the CPA, so, or the guy on TikTok. So you have to be able to really ground down. what is out there and how that applies to you. And so like for me, it's like creating that foundation and structure for that business owner. So usually they're women. sometimes a lot of it's online just because I, again, I am not in a set location. I mean, yeah. And the internet makes the world such a smaller place. Yes. Yes. I love it. So, so yeah, women usually I've got a couple of different offers. I, so I like to help people who are brand new and then I also like people who are like, I've got this sales thing figured out, but where the heck is the money going and why is it not showing up on the bottom line? Yeah. Yeah. So I really like to dig into, are all the business lines profitable? If they're not, are you okay with it? Cause at the end of the day, you could have some lost leaders, but they have to be. You know, still funding some of the other projects, because at the end of the day, everything has to have, some level of profitability, or you'll run out of cash. Totally. And so you just come in with fresh eyes, because sometimes you're also too close to it, come in with fresh eyes, see how we can optimize what we're working with, or grow it from there. Absolutely. There's one part written under the talking points. Discover how to cultivate a wealth mindset that transcends money, empowering you to build a profitable and purpose driven life. And that was like, bingo. Yep. Come on the podcast. Let's talk about that. Tell me what you mean by that. What does that mean to you? Well, for me, a profitable life is not just the profit on the bottom line of, you know, your reports, right? Or the money that you take home. It's ultimately how you spend your time. So energy management is super, super key. If you hate what you're doing. Stop it. Yeah. What's the point? Yeah. I mean, that's the one resource that isn't renewable where money is. Yep. Absolutely. So you get to decide how you want to spend your time. And so if you are in a place that you're like, wow, I really hate this, then it's time to revisit and be like, what do I love? Lean into the things that you love. You're so much happier and you can serve so much better if you are lit up by what you're doing. So it's not only time and energy, but also the money. And so it's like, in my rule, it's easy to say it's the money, but for me, it's so much more the time and the energy. we talked about this a little bit before I hopped on, but my husband and I, we launched the third kid. So after 27 years of parenting, We were so young when we started our, business life and like the, where, what school district are you going to get the kids in? All of that stuff. We're deep in that right now. huh. Yeah. And so now we're like, Oh my gosh, what can we do? So we started planning a couple of years beforehand to be like, A, he was a teacher. And so we were like, how do we get you out of the school system? I remember telling him like, Hey, I'm so excited that, that you are a teacher. And like when the kids are done with the school calendar, so am I. Hey, mama wants to do some fun stuff. And so we decided that we wanted to travel. And so we still have a cat. I think it's so funny that we still have a cat. That's actually why we are in an RV. Otherwise, I would have totally went overseas in the beginning. But we're like, let's go do fun things. So we don't. restructured what he's doing. He's now a tax provider. and then, you know, we built out the RV. So again, this is not our RV, ironically, but we built out the RV. So he has a spot to work and I have a spot to work and we're involved in all sorts of networking things online because at the end of the day, it's just meeting people, right? You don't have to be in one spot. So that was all about. I could stay at the office that we had in Austin, Texas, which is where we're from. But I was like, I want to do fun things. So for me, that time, energy, money, all of that played a role in what we're doing now. Yeah, and I totally agree with this like profit and when you're saying that. That purpose driven life that's not just about money. That's about time. And I think so many people, I think it's instilled in their brain, either subconsciously through childhood programming, through being reaffirmed by the people around them all the time. But you hear so many people just saying, it's always going to be this way. This is just how it is. This is how it has to be. And I loved when you said, if you don't like how you're spending your time, stop doing that because people will hear that and they'll think, yeah, that's. That, that message specifically, I'm not going to take, that's not for me, that's for somebody else. But like, quite literally, if you don't like how you're spending your time, there is a fucking solution to everything. And I just have such a hard time, I have a podcast episode, it's old now, so it's probably not one that you listen to, but about like a victim mindset versus a creator mindset. Like you, We only have this one life. You are in charge of how you're spending it. And there are so many creative guides along the way that you can seek out, especially now in 2025. I guarantee any problem you're having a few Google searches and a little bit down the rabbit hole, you can find a person that knows how to get you out of that situation. Absolutely. Because at the end of the day, like you are the only one that can make that change and decide what's worth it and what's not. And so you have to do the work of establishing that. And that's a lot of times what I help people on the business side is, yeah, like I get, I started out having a bookkeeping business, but really I was a, I was a CFO before that. And so I just, bookkeeping has to be right. When you start getting into, like, different revenue streams or, you know, how much you're spending on X or Y, it's really about, like, hey, if you love doing that, let's do more of that. If you hate doing that, hire someone to do it if you need to keep it in your business. Or, just say, I don't offer that. You can do that because businesses are just as unique as people are, and that's okay. Now, when you said wealth mindset, what do you mean by that specifically? And, like, how does that speak to you? Or maybe what was your, was there a time when you didn't have a wealth mindset? Yeah, I mean, I think that wealth mindset is largely a choice, right? It's like what you put in and what you're ruminating on. And, I still have to work on that all the time. I mean, I think I get into the money side of things because I want to see how it all works out. And again, Enneagram 6 is like about safety, right? For sure. So I want to have a sense of safety, but I also realized that, like, our choices really dictate our realities. And so for me, I work on that all the time. I move my body. I'm writing in my journal. I am, you know, listening to affirmations. I love listening to something as I go to bed, especially if I'm in a. Or mood on the way to bed, right? Like, because I feel like it sets you up for, such an abundance mindset the next day. for me, I think wealth is often thought of as just dollars in a bank account, but I believe that it is actually, life well lived and only you can decide what that is, right? So for me, the traveling is the most important thing for next little bit. And so we are very wealthy in that. And sometimes that's tricky, right? you wanted to go to this place, you ended up having to go to that place, but at the end of the day, as long as you still feel good and abundant about what's happening, then You are enjoying your life. Yeah. And it's intentional. It's not reactionary. It's choosing. It's being the creator in that story. And I don't know if you feel this way now that you, you know, work with entrepreneurs. It's hard because you wish that you had the magic pill for the people that don't have it. But within meeting somebody, it's almost this wealth mindset. And when you say it's a choice, people can be in two of the exact same scenarios on paper, on everything. And you can just tell by talking to someone that they have that wealth mindset, that abundance mindset, that. No matter what gets in my way, it's not going to knock me off my path. I'm going to keep going. And like, I, I've spent my life work trying to figure out the pill, the clue, the whatever, those people that don't have that needs, but it really is just a choice and that sounds so simple and so stupid, but like it genuinely is that it's a purposeful, intentional choice over and over and over again. We all do, but it's. choosing again and again and catching it and noticing it and rewriting it. I agree. Having that awareness around, Oh, well, that's scarcity. Look at what's showing up for me right now. Okay. What do I need to do to make that feel easy or to like, how can I flip that on its head? Right. It's an active choice to be like, Oh, I'm aware. I see that. Okay. What's driving that and how can I find a different way to a solution rather than. Yeah. Absolutely. another little talking point we have is reimagine profitability as the foundation for a life that optimizes your energy, time and resources. What does that mean? Talk about profitability. Like when people, some people, they hear that and they're like, some people just turn their brain off when they start hearing this money talk and they're like, okay, I don't even know what any of that means. What does property profitability mean to you and why is that the foundation that feels so important? Yeah. So profitability is sustainability. So you can sustain, you can stay in business if you have enough leftover after you've spent everything. And so it can be as simple as that. and if it doesn't feel again, back to that worth it, right? Like if that what's left over does not feel worth the blood, sweat and tears, then you need to make adjustments. Because you're not going to want to continue to do that work or, that relationship because really you can apply it in any place here, right? It can be relationships, it can be business, And so you have to be able to make sure that you're getting enough out of something after everything has been spent. So again, that's true of, of, you know, your actual income coming into your business and what it costs you to do that again, including time and energy. Because especially for, beauty professionals, right? So much of it is energy. It's time and energy because you get to take home the rest of the cash, but gave up time and energy. So for you, does it feel profitable or does it feel worth it at the end? And if it doesn't, you need to make adjustments. so yeah, for me, profitability is sustainability and I know people. Especially, you know, women business owners, they're typically, I don't want to look at a report. I want to look at a P& L, but usually your energy is already telling you something's off. Yeah. And so looking at the reporting can help you identify specific places and validate, Oh, this is the place where it feels like it's a drain on my time. and so then you're, like, making decisions not just from feeling, but you're supporting it with some data. Yeah, and knowledge is power, and I, there's a quote, you gotta know your numbers to grow your numbers, and I'm an Enneagram 7, so we are notorious for avoiding pain, and sometimes financial things show up as painful or uncomfortable, or I feel stupid with that, so for many, many years, I would, That would just flow out of my mouth in the mindset way, and I've done a lot of personal work and business work, all the things to overcome that where I will not let myself say those words anymore. I won't let those just like easily flow off my tongue because, You truly can't get traction without knowing it and I think you're right. I think whether it's women or if people have money blocks from their past or they saw, you know their parents speak about money a certain way or I know for a long time meeting with financial advisors CPAs I would go in and I would leave feeling stupid and I hated that feeling and so I've done a lot of work to that with that and that is really I resonated with what you said about that specifically. Mm hmm. For sure. Amazing. okay. How to design a business lifestyle that reflects your unique vision, creating space for epic experiences, meaningful connections, personal growth. I feel like we've kind of talked about that. Is there anything else on that that you really want to chime in on? Well, I will tell you that I have a lot of people who hear what we're doing where we're like, you know, traveling around in RV and they're like, Oh my gosh, I wish I could do that. And like, here's this. Now, if you have kids, people do this with kids, people do this, all ages of life, but I'll hear people like, Oh, when I retire, maybe I can do that. Like, you can do anything that you want to do. And so just be thinking about, like, you need to have a plan around it, right? Like, you need to work through some of the numbers and see how it looks. But I think it's so important for people to hear that, like, you can do literally anything that you want to do in business and in life. And if you need support in navigating that, like there's coaches, right, there's personal coaches, there's business coaches. You just need to have, figure out what, what would you need to give up in order to do that? And if so, like sometimes people are like, Oh my God, that's so easy to give up. Great. How would, how do we make money? How do we do this other things? So just, it's feel so important for people to feel in choice and know they can. If they want to. And again, sometimes you walk through something and you're like, well, that's not what I thought it was going to be. And I don't want to do that. And that's, so like, it's all learning. Totally. Totally. I don't know how many episodes you listened back, but, I have a member of Stylist Soul Tribe. Her name is Leisha. And we had a vision casting workshop a few years ago and she was making over six figures, beautiful business, independent hairstylist, and she was still just feeling unfulfilled. And, I, I guide people through, like, making vision boards and just kind of some manifestation stuff like that, but she was like, I have a really hard time, like, dreaming that big or thinking that far into the future, because technically she'd already checked all the boxes, like, what she thought she wanted, she'd already achieved, and I was like, okay, I'm ready. I am really good being in Enneagram 7. What I'm the best at is seeing 10 steps ahead. Not so much what gets me there, but I can definitely envision it. Like, that's something I'm very good at. Like, literally close your eyes right now. It is 5 years from today. Your alarm goes off in the morning. Open your eyes. Where are you? Where are you going today? Do you work today? Where do you work? Who's around you? What's outside of you? And she had a moment where she was like, she's from Ohio, and she was like, I see mountains. My dogs are with me. Caleb, my husband is with me. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And that, she didn't have sold it then, but, a couple, but you got it started. Like a fire was started. Yeah. And then she got this download is what I call them. Big Magic Ideas downloads. And she now has a business. I'm so freaking proud of her. It's been going for two years now called the Traveling Hairstyles. She lives in an RV as well. Right this moment, she's in an Airbnb because of the complexities that come with RV living, she goes to stylists from around the country and she takes over their clientele while they're on maternity leave. She serves their clients. I love that. And again, that didn't exist three years ago. But I also just so believe in like, if it doesn't exist yet. Boom, even better, even better for you. If it does exist, great, take that path. It's proven. But if it doesn't, like there's room for that anywhere. And so I think it all comes back down to just serious intentionality and just paying attention to how you speak and the things you say. And if you find yourself complaining more often than sharing your excitement, or if you find yourself saying, I have to do this, or I can't afford to do this, just those are breadcrumbs. Follow that. Absolutely. Dig in a little bit. Okay, how do you repeat that over and over again? Yes, yes. I love it. I remember telling my high school kids, like, when you're in high school, like, take all the classes. Like, don't just go on one track. Take all the classes because you're sorting. You're like, oh, don't love that. Ooh, interesting. Take a few steps closer to that. So as you're thinking about college, all you have to do is pay attention to the clues of like, Ooh, that lifts my energy up, that perks my interest, and like, just keep walking down those steps. And isn't that literally what life is? And I think at the end of high school, you think it's that moment in time where you have to do that, but isn't that honestly just what life is? I think so many people will get stuck into something that they think that they're stuck in that forever, but it's like, if that still is draining your energy or not lighting you up. It's never too late to make that change. I mean, how many people have like a career for the first 20 years and then they do something completely different for the, next 20 years. And I think that like I have my, my youngest is currently in Europe because he was like, I'm not going to go to college. I don't know what I want to do. I think I want to do business. I don't know that I need to go to school for that because he's got some parents who know how to do that. and so he's, he's entertaining Europe just to like get new exposure. to some things. And he's like, he's experiencing things like, Oh, that's a great business idea. When I get back home, I'm going to research what that looks like in my area. And so he's leaning into all of these different things. That has to be so fulfilling as a parent. But I, we plant little seeds. And we say that to like, I've planted that in my daughter's head before, you know, you can study abroad, there's a lot of different things you can do. And I think you said you were a younger mom as well. I was a young mom too. You just realize how Fast this all goes by and just so true. Yeah, you have, you literally have so many options. And even like my son the other day we were at dinner. What did he say when we were watching the dunk contest or something? And I was like, you gonna do that one day? But he's like, no, I can't do that. I can't never do that. You're eight years old. Absolutely. You can't if anybody can. It's a freaking eight year old. And so I don't know How we get through to, people. But yeah, that's why I said it. I'm like, Benny, if I decided at eight years old that I wanted to be a professional anything, if you decide at eight, sure as hell you can. maybe you don't have the talent, but you won't know that until you try Plus, 20 years of dedicated work? Absolutely the heck you can. So, yeah, I'm always just like, tell me more about that. Why are you asking that? Why do you believe that? Why don't you think? So, yeah, that is. I totally think why is the reason. Like, why is the reason? Why is this going well? Why is this not going well? You know, like, just that awareness is going to make everything so much easier. And so, again, I do that with people in their business. And in fact, I have a client who tells people that I'm more like her business coach, which I'm not a business coach. Well, honestly, as you're talking, it's kind of sounding like you do offer a lot of that. I offer a lot because ultimately my whole goal, like, I don't care what you call it. My whole goal is like, how do I equip people to make good decisions and enjoy their freaking life? Literally. What's the point of the money if we don't enjoy any of it? Because you can leave it all in the bank and never use it. I actually told my mom that recently. I'm like, you have, you spend it. It is time to spend it. Enjoy your life. Okay. I was about to wrap up, but that just made me want to ask one more question. So if you have a valid answer, we'll keep it in. how does people go from, because there's another period where it's like you need to stop spending, you need to chill, like when do people know those moments, how much to save, spend, invest, give, when to save, spend, invest, give, like do you have any? Easy, like, off the cuff rules for that, or not necessarily. It takes a much deeper peek. Well, I would say, first of all, it depends on your goals. Yeah. Right? So, if your goal is a lot of safety, you're probably going to save for a lot longer, and you need to be told you can spend some on occasion. If the goal is to just, like, live life to the fullest, maybe we need to be, like, and also prepare for Risk. It depends on how they naturally move and then you pad them either way. Okay, smart. Love that. Amazing. Totally. They'll need to be like, oh, whoa, too far over here. Yep. Yep. And if you, if you lay on super far saver, you probably need some more free spirits in your life. If you land super free spirit, you probably need some people having your back in your life. That makes a lot of sense. So you offer, it sounds like coaching, consulting, you said there's a community that you are creating. Tell us a little bit more if people are jamming with what you have to say and they want to work with you. What does that look like? And how do they get in touch with you? Absolutely. So, first off, the community is called Let's Profit Together. It's a finance focused co working. Be prepared to do something that moves the needle financially. So maybe that's invoicing your clients. Maybe it's like setting up a new way for them to pay. Maybe it's doing your bookkeeping. Maybe it's looking at your pricing and being like, Hey, am I charged enough for these things, right? So do whatever you want to do and then the group will support you. We'll do a little bit of like, Bring a drink, have some music, and then towards the end, we'll be like, Hey, what did you achieve? What were your roadblocks? And along the way, a friend of mine and I, we both are there for any questions. You're like, Hey, I'm stuck on this. Like we can have some of those questions answered. and then if you ultimately are like, I need someone to look at my stuff and tell me, am I even on the right track? Am I at all prepared? I have what's called a financial wellness assessment. So I love to be like, let me get into your stuff. So that all just starts with like, let's having a conversation about what your goals are. who you are and what you need, and then we start to, you know, co create a plan. Awesome. And I've got a website and Instagram. Do you have a preference? How, like, is that an Instagram DM is the best way to get in touch? Do you want them to kind of follow through your, follow through your funnel? Do you have a preference if somebody reaches out? I don't because I'm happy to meet people wherever they are. And I think that's, that's like an ongoing thing about me. Like, I want to meet you where you are. and then think about you tell me where you want to go. And then we start to get you there. Thank you, Tana. It was so nice to meet you and get to know you. I can have conversations like this all day, every day. So it's just fun. One is obviously like growing my community, giving back to my industry, but selfishly, these long form conversations that I get to have and all these new Friends I get to make from having these deep conversations that you really wouldn't have the opportunity to do if you didn't have a podcast. I'm just so grateful for it. So yeah, I'm gonna add you to my list of many really cool people that I've met through this. So thank you. I know, I think connection is everything, right? Like otherwise why we're here. Yep. Love it. Okay, thank you everybody for listening. I'll have all of Tana's information in the show notes. so feel free to reach out if anything she said today resonates with you and I will talk to you all next week.
